Veterans Day Special: Navajo Code Talkers to Be Special Guest of HBO

By admin

At the invitation of HBO, 11 surviving Navajo Code Talkers will take part in New York City’s annual Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11.  They will ride on a float designed for HBO’s upcoming mini-series “The Pacific,” executive produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman. Celebrating its 90th year (1919-2009), the New York City Veterans Day Parade honors the sacrifice and service of servicemen past and present.  Hosted by the United War Veterans Council on behalf of the City of New York, the New York City Veterans Day Parade is the largest of its kind in the nation.  Veterans groups, military units and other organizations from across the nation travel to NYC for this special commemoration.

Patrick Gualtieri, Chairman of the NYC Veterans Day Parade, states, “We are very proud to be hosting the Code Talkers for this year’s 90th Anniversary of Veterans Day.  They truly represent how Americans of all backgrounds have stepped forward throughout our country’s history to defend our freedoms.”

I once had a Navajo marine say:
    akoshe
when I gave him a gift. I am not positive about the spelling.
What is the meaning and correct spelling.
    Thank you

I would love to have a speaker!!! My 8th graders are so interested in the study of WWII, that to have a veteran would be amazing!!! Please let me know what I need to do and if there is a cost involved. We are a Title I school, but I am willing to try to make this happen for my students.

    Thank you!

I am a student at Utah Valley University in Orem Utah studying sociology and a minor in American Indian Studies and also a member of the Native Sun Club on campus as my distant great Grandfather, Wydanch, was chief of the Montauk on Long Island. In Ken Sekaquaptewa’s American Indian Studies class myself and 4 other students are doing a presentation this coming week on the Navajo Code Talkers. We would be delighted to be able to ask a few questions if that is possible. I have tried to contact through other e-mail addresses and a phone number in Window Rock AZ to no avail. Please contact me if you can give me any information..THANK YOU!!!

The navajo nation was truly part of the greatest generation that stepped up to the challenges of their generation. Racism would have have tried to soil any contribribution of theirs, but their God given talents and abilites were the only things that could solve the problem at hand. Were were all created for His glory and God created them for “such a time as this”. They were some of the true warriors of their time, thankyou so much for your courage, sincerely, one of the sons of the greatest generation

there is really alot to be said, for the code talkers. I have been interested in the code talkers for about 10 years, and have most of the books wrote about them. Everyone should get one and read it. There is so much to know. It is hard to believe all they had to go through, and willing to go through. For this country that they love so much.

My students are interested in what you present. Do you have any speakers in the Chicagoland area? How much do you charge?

    Thanks!

Thanks a lot. I have met several of the code talkers. When they had a Special display at the Pueblo Culture Center in Albuquerque NM a couple years ago we made a special trip there just to be apart of it. It was such an honor to meet them. They sacrificed so much for this country, especially for the way our military and government has treated them (Native Americans).
